Different types of security bollards

Security bollards are a cost-effective and easy security solution for every home. Installed at the bottom of your driveway, they can help prevent vehicle theft, accidents, and illegal parking, amongst many others. Available in many different styles, you’re bound to find a security bollard or parking post that fits your needs.

But with so much choice out there, how do you choose the right security bollard for you? In this article, we’ll talk you through the main types of security bollards and how they can increase the safety and security of your home.

Telescopic Posts

Telescopic posts are amongst the most popular parking posts for both residential and commercial customers because they are incredibly convenient to use. Held into place via a padlock, telescopic posts can be lowered straight into the ground and stored there to allow for easy movement over them.

Many telescopic posts come with lift-assist features that reduce the weight of the bollard for ease of movement. They are a great option for driveways where access is required throughout the day, such as on a shared driveway.

The installation of telescopic posts requires an 862mm hole to be dug for the ground socket that will store the post when not in use. If you have pipes below your driveway that may prevent digging, our other parking posts might be better suited to your needs.

Collapsible Posts

As the name suggests, these parking posts can be collapsed and folded neatly to the ground when not in use. They are incredibly easy to use and do not require specialist assistance to be installed.

Unlike some of our other parking bollards, no part of this bollard is underground so this is the perfect option for those who cannot dig on their driveway.

We offer removable security bollards across the UK

Removable bollards

Removable security bollards are sturdy bollards that can be lifted directly out of the ground when not in use. They are secured in place in an upright position with a padlock that attaches the post to its base. When not in use, an anti-slip ground cover covers the hole and lies flat against the ground.

These bollards are perfect for driveways that frequently need to be kept clear – the bollard can be easily removed in the morning and reinstalled at night.

Installation of our removable bollard requires a 450mm x 450mm x 450mm hole to be dug on your driveway. This hole is used to stabilise the base for added security.

Automatic Bollards

Automatic bollards are often a type of telescopic bollards that are lowered into the ground. However, unlike other telescopic bollards, the movement of these posts is controlled via motion detection, a keyfob, intercom, or proximity cards. The automation can make it easier to increase the thickness of your bollard without worry that it will affect how easily you can lift it. A thicker

They are an excellent solution for homes with multiple cars, apartment complexes, and car parks.

Our fixed parking posts are bolted to the ground

Fixed posts

Fixed bollards are often concreted into the ground or bolted to a base plate for added stability. Unlike our other options, these bollards cannot be removed when you need to use your driveway. As such, these bollards are best at restricting parking or cordoning off pedestrian areas to prevent accidents.
